The Screen Actors Guild Strike of 1980. Those were some of the things that took place in 1980 as we transitioned out of the 1970s into the 1980s.

- John Lennon is shot to death outside his apartment in New York. News of his death was broken live on Monday Night Football, as fans mourned all over the world.
- Evita dominates the Tony Awards. Best Play Children of a Lesser God and 1981 Tony Winners 42nd Street and Amadeus make their Broadway debuts. 42nd Street director/choreographer Gower Champion passes away on the morning of the show's opening performance.
