We're back with OSU students in Dr. Kristi Lekies' Rural Sociology course, discussing rural life in the 5th episode of our From the City to the Country series. This series serves to highlight rural life according to the voices of OSU students, many of whom have grown up in rural places in Ohio and beyond. Tonight we are taking a look at where our food comes from and issues affecting food and agriculture, as well as ways to produce your own food. So grab your plates and feast your ears on these delicious segments.

I recorded this before the tragic events this weekend. This is a painful cycle the country is in. I hope this and other meditations like this can help to put peach, love, and calmness back to the forefront of people lives. I hope that today, as you are out in the world, each person you see, you look at them with the eyes of compassion and understanding. This is one way to help create the ripple of change and begin to overcome hate.

When I started producing content for radio 5-6 years ago, my first show included a song by First Aid Kit. They are a remarkable Swedish Alternative folk duo that includes sisters Klara Söderberg (on vocals/guitar) and Johanna Söderberg (on vocals, bass, keyboards and autoharp).
I’m long overdue to produce a show that highlights their impressive body of work. Today I present songs from several First Aid Kit albums including: The Lion’s Roar, Stay Gold, Drunken Trees and Ruins.
While the band is Swedish their sound contains elements of pure Americana.
Klara and Johanna have long favored many classic American musicians including: Billie Holiday, Emmy Lou Harris and The Carter Family. The Carter family was the "first family" of American Country music from the 1930’s thru the 1960’s . . . with June Carter Cash (who wrote and performed "Ring of Fire" with her husband Johnny Cash) as one of their most prominent members.

This is the final (and perhaps the finest) album by the Alternative Band called "The Cranberries." Bursting on to the Alt/Indie scene in 1993 with their debut album entitled "Everyone Is Doing It, Why Can't We?" their haunting track "Linger" continues to be heavily featured on Alt/Indie Rock radio stations across the world. Today I play my favorite tracks from their final Album appropriately titled "In the End" released in April of 2019, following the death of their lead singer Delores O'Riordan.

I’ll be playing jazz of all styles; hard bop, vocal, fusion, big band, latin, etc. Anything with a jazz influence may be a candidate. I’ve been collecting music all of my adult life and now have the opportunity to share it. Also, there will be a lot of local artists, past and present.
