Fiona stayed home during the Grammys bc she wanted to stay sober.
Earlier in the week, Apple said she was gonna smash her Grammy in protest of Dr. Luke's Nomination in regards to Dr. Luke's dispute with Kesha.
My read is Fiona didn't want to withstand the emotions of a spectacle such as smashing a grammy.
Fiona Apple made her point. She didn't have to undergo the next year of living, breaking down standing up for something she believed in or feeling like she was selling her ideals short. Nor did she distract from Lil Baby +Killer Mike's Grammy moment. Apple could accept the fact people like her new record and not insult those who gave Fiona Altenative album of the year: "Fetch The Bolt Cutters" + Perfomance of the year "Shameika." Apple could put the Grammy's next to her other Grammy, platinum records, and Pitchfork Reviews.
