New television shows included "Wheel of Fortune", "The Jeffersons", "Barney Miller", "Starsky and Hutch", "Welcome Back, Kotter", "Ryan's Hope", "Good Morning America", and "Saturday Night Live".

The Cincinnati Reds won the World Series. The Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl. UCLA won the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The Oklahoma Sooners won the National Championship in Football.

Here at home, Mayor Tom Moody (R) won re-election as Mayor of Columbus. Linden McKinley's Panthers won the Class AAA Boys Basketball Championship. The West High Cowboys won the Class AAA Baseball Championship. Interstate 270 was finally complete. Woody Hayes was named Associated Press Coach of the Year, while Archie Griffin picked up his Second Heisman Trophy.
