- Heaven's Gate Cult Commits Mass Suicide near San Diego.
- Rapper Notorious B.I.G. is fatally gunned down in a drive-by shooting.
- Fashion designer Gianni Versace is murdered by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who later takes his own life.
